Why isn't the item cost displayed in the Stock Report?

Last updated: Jul 27, 2026

LocalizeBook calculates inventory costs using the Average Cost method. If an item is sold before there is sufficient inventory quantity and value, the system cannot calculate its average cost. As a result, the item cost will not be displayed in the Stock Report.

Recommended Solution

To ensure the item cost is displayed correctly:

  • Record a Purchase Bill or Opening Stock before selling the item so that inventory has both quantity and value.
  • If the sales transaction has already been recorded, perform a Stock Adjustment to update the item's quantity and inventory value.

Warning: If Allow Negative Sale is enabled for an item, LocalizeBook allows the item to be sold even when there is insufficient stock. Since the system uses the Average Cost method, the item cost cannot be calculated until inventory with both quantity and value is received or adjusted. As a result, the item cost will not appear in the Stock Report until the inventory value is available.

Note: To avoid this issue, record inventory before creating sales transactions, or disable Allow Negative Sale unless your business requires selling items before stock is received.
