Item Types

When creating an item in LocalizeBook, you need to select an Item Type. The item type determines how the item is managed, especially for inventory, assembly, services, and bundled sales.

LocalizeBook provides four item types:

  1. Stock Part – for items that are purchased, stored, and sold from inventory.
  2. Stock Assemble – for items produced by assembling other items.
  3. Service – for services that do not require inventory tracking.
  4. Package – for bundling multiple items together for sale.

1. Stock Part

Short Description:

Used for items that are purchased, stored, and sold as inventory.

Use Stock Part when:

  1. The item has an inventory quantity.
  2. You purchase the item from suppliers.
  3. You sell the item to customers.
  4. You want to track its inventory movement and cost.

Examples:

Laptop, Office Chair, Printer, Raw Material, Mobile Phone

2. Stock Assemble

Short Description:

Used for items that are produced by assembling multiple components or stock items.

Use Stock Assemble when:

  1. The item is made from other inventory items.
  2. You need to define components or a Bill of Materials.
  3. You want to record the assembly of components into a finished item.
  4. The finished item is stored or sold as inventory.

Example:

A computer assembled from a CPU, RAM, SSD, motherboard, and power supply.

3. Service

Short Description:

Used for services that do not require inventory tracking.

Use Service when:

  1. You sell a service rather than a physical inventory item.
  2. There is no quantity to track in inventory.
  3. You only need to record the service as part of a sales transaction.

Examples:

Accounting Service, Consulting Service, Installation Fee, Maintenance Service

4. Package

Short Description:

Used to bundle multiple existing items together and sell them as one package.

Use Package when:

  1. You want to sell several items together.
  2. The package consists of existing Stock Part or other eligible items.
  3. You want to present the bundle as one item on a sales transaction.

Example:

A Computer Package containing:

  1. 1 Laptop
  2. 1 Mouse
  3. 1 Keyboard
  4. 1 Laptop Bag

Simple Way to Remember

  2. Package = Sell existing items together

In short: Use Stock Assemble when you are creating or producing a finished product. Use Package when you want to sell several existing products together as one offering.
